Dodgers Minor League Organizational Review

by @ 6:38 pm. Filed under 2008 Dodgers

In a very cool series at, Lisa Winston took an after the fact look at the Dodgers minor league system.  They named Delwyn Young as the best position player but they didn’t anticipate the emergence of Clayton Kershaw as a bonafide stuff.  Kershaw got it done both with the Loons and with Double-A Jacksonville and while he’ll probably start back at Jacksonville, you might see him in a Dodger uniform as early as next year.

It’s also interesting looking at the guys who “kept their footing.”  Andy LaRoche, Blake DeWitt and Preston Mattingly all fell into that category and all three have to make some strides in 2008 to re-establish their prospect credentials.  There’s also a cool recap of the Dodgers 2007 draft, and it’s another pitcher in Christopher Withrow who the Dodgers are banking on having future success.

Chan Ho Park Comes Home to Dodgers

by @ 7:47 am. Filed under 2008 Dodgers

People forget how good Chan Ho Park was at one time and in a way, it almost seemed like a curse to the pitcher because as soon as he left Los Angeles, it was like he fell of a cliff.  He put together a decent season in 2006 for the Padres but he didn’t catch on with the Mets and ended up pretty much the entire season in the minors.

Now, Chan Ho Park is going to sign a minor league deal with the Dodgers.  This is one of those low risk deals I can handle and it’ll let us see what, if anything, Park has left.  At this point, he’ll be 35 in June so he doesn’t have a whole lot left but it’s worth the risk to find out.  Plus having a guy like Park in your back pocket down in Triple A is never a bad thing.
