Nomar will begin a rehab assignment today with Triple-A Las Vegas, who is in Sacramento this weekend. He will likely DH today and then play third on Sunday. His assignment shouldn’t last longer than a week, so should be joining the team as they start a roadtrip beginning with Atlanta next Friday.

Andy LaRoche also took BP on Friday, but still wasn’t ready to field and throw grounders. He’s about halfway through his estimated 10 weeks of being out.

After last night’s game, Torre announced that LHP Hong-Chih Kuo will replace Esteban Loaiza as the fifth starter. This will put Kuo as the starter in Tuesday’s game against Pittsburgh.
