Brad Penny Pitches Dodgers to First Place in the West

by @ 2:52 am. Filed under 2007 Season

Brad Penny is off to a great start and he improved to 3-0 yesterday with some more solid pitching in the matchup with the Diamondbacks.  He gave up just one run on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts in seven innings of work.  Joe Beimel and Chad Billingsley each threw an inning of scoreless relief to close the game out in the 5-1 win.

Juan Pierre had two hits and two runs along with a stolen base.  Nomar Garciaparra homered and drove in two runs.  The finale is tonight with Brett Tomko taking the mound.  With the Padres losing, a win tonight would give the Dodgers a nice little cushion in the division.  A very nice start for the Dodger blue.
