Dodgers Bizarre Seasons Winds Down

by @ 5:59 am. Filed under 2010 Dodgers

The Dodgers are on the verge of being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs in what has been a weird year for the team.  First you have the whole divorce situation which is a bizarre drama by itself.  The latest has to do with the lawyer who drafted the postnup and how he drafted copies with varying languange.  It looks the law firm is going to be loser here (and for a change) because no matter which side wins, the other side is going to sue.

Then you just have the roller coaster season.  On June 17, the Dodgers were tied for first place with a 38-27 record.    Since then, they’ve gone 35-49 and only the Diamondbacks, Pirates and Nationals have been worse.  Pile on the disappointing offense (what happened to Matt Kemp) and an erratic bullpen and it makes for a tough season.  The good news is, the Dodgers definitely have a good base to work with.  Clayton Kershaw, Chad Billingsley and Hiroki Kuroda make a good front end of the rotation and Jon Broxton and Hong-Chih Kuo make a nice back end of the ballpen.  Throw in the always solid Dodgers farm system and the Dodgers should be in the mix next year.

And then we have the whole Joe Torre hand off to Don Mattingly.  I just hope this whole divorce situation is resolved in some fashion and Mattingly is given a solid shot at succeeding.  In the meantime, we have two more weeks of Dodgers baseball so I’ll enjoy what I can get for now.
