Dodgers Can’t Do Anything Right in Recent Skid

by @ 2:39 am. Filed under 2006 Season

Five straight losses.  And to make matters worse, we’re now in last place in the NL West.  Granted we’re only four games out of first place, but that won’t last much longer if we continue having streaks like this.

On Monday against the Diamondbacks, the Dodgers just couldn’t get ahead.  Brad Penny gave up three runs in the bottom of the second and from that point until the end of the game, the score was 3-2.  J.D. Drew drove in a run on a ground out and Sandy Alomar, Jr. singled home Nomar Garciaperra to account for the two Dodgers runs.

Tuesday wasn’t much better.  This time the Dodgers got the runs, but they couldn’t get the pitching in their 10-8 loss.  The Dodgers jumped out to a six run lead, but in the bottom of the fifth, the Diamondbacks exploded for seven runs to open the game up.  Odalis Perez was the pitcher who got roughed up   J.D. Drew had a monster game.  He homered twice and drove in three runs.

A change os scenery didn’t change things.  The Dodgers came back home to play the struggling Padres and ended up on the losing side of two games.  Wednesday they lost 11-5 and it was the bullpen that got roughed up.  Yesterday the Dodgers couldn’t get the bats going and they lost 3-0.  The Dodgers managed only two hits and both were singles.

The Milwaukee Brewers roll into town for a weekend series.  It’d be nice if the Dodgers could pick themselves out of this slump, but the more I read about them, the more I think they’re just outgunned this year.  I hope I’m wrong, but this could be a long season.
