Following the Dodgers and Exploring The Team’s Past
[powered by WordPress.]
The Dodgers just keep on winning. They’ve now extended their winning streak to seven games and they stand just a half game back of the also hot Arizona Diamondbacks. They hit the road though, so hopefully that doesn’t cause them to lose their momentum.
On Monday, Jae Seo got the job done on the mound and had one of his better starts of the season. He gave up one unearned run on six hits and a walk in seven innings. J.D. Drew drove in two runs and Jose Cruz, Jr. scored twice in the 6-1 win. Jonathon Broxton continued his phenomonal bullpen work with a perfect eighth inning and he dropped his ERA down to 0.82.
The Dodgers made it six straight on Tuesday. More good pitching, and this time it was Brad Penny who threw five shutout innings. He improved to 5-1 on the season. Kenny Lofton had a big game at the plate. He went three for five with two runs and two RBIs in the 8-1 win.
Aaron Sele converted the third win of the series and the seventh straight win for the Dodgers with some more great pitching. He threw seven shutout innings and gave up three hits. He improved to 3-0 on the season. Broxton shaved his ERA down to 0.69 with two solid innings. He gave up on unearned run and he struck out two. Rafael Furcal went three for five with a run and Nomar Garciaparra had two hits and two runs. Jeff Kent led the way though. He went three for three with two RBIs and a run.
The Nationals are on deck, so hopefully we’ll be able to keep the winning streak going. With the division still really tight, there’s not a lot of room for error, so hopefully our pitching will be able to keep up what they’ve been doing the last week and a half.
And just a quick note, obviously I haven’t kept up with the Don Drysdale diary. I just got far enough behind to where it became much more difficult to catch up, so I’m hoping to try to make some progress on that in the upcoming weeks. I also had a hard time accounting for all of Drysdale’s games so that’s also a work in progress. It was too bad Retrosheet didn’t go one year further back. It would have made things a ton easier.
