Dodgers Drop Second Game to Astros

by @ 8:04 am. Filed under 2009 Dodgers

The Dodgers scored a go-ahead run in the eighth, but the bullpen couldn’t hold it in the bottom half as the Astros went on to win, 6-5.

Randy Wolf went seven innings, giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out six. He was in line for the win after leaving with a one-run lead, but Ronald Belisario came on in the eighth and gave up a game-tying solo homerun, followed by an RBI-single to Ivan Rodriquez for what would be the Astros winning run.

Roy Oswalt held the Dodgers quiet until they rallied for four runs in the sixth, all off homeruns. Manny Ramirez and Andre Ethier opened the inning with the Dodgers’ first back-to-back homeruns of the season, and Casey Blake broke the 2-2 tie with a two-run shot later in the inning. James Loney drove in a go-ahead run in the eighth, but the Astros answered back with two in the bottom half for the win.

The Dodgers send Chad Billingsley to the mound today to avoid the sweep, facing a double-Rodriquez battery with Wandy Rodriquez making the start for the Astros. Billingsley looks to add a win to his perfec 3-0 record while Wandy is 1-1 with a 1.89 ERA, including notching a career-high 10 K’s in his last outing.
