Dodgers Even Up Series, Regain 3-Game Lead

by @ 8:13 am. Filed under 2009 Dodgers

The offense finally heated up a little in Wednesday’s game at Coors, beating the Rockies 6-1 to gain a full game in the NL West.

It seems to be a broken record saying Randy Wold posted another quality start, but that’s exactly what he did once again. He went 7 1/3, striking out five, and giving up just one run-a two-out solo homerun in the third. Wolf is now 4-0 with an ERA south of 2 in his last four starts. Sherrill finished the eighth in relief and Broxton worked the ninth.

The offense got going in the first with a two-run homerun by Andre Ethier, his first of two jacks on the night. Ethier then led off the fourth with a solo homerun to kick-start a four-run inning, and his three hits on the night would give him a .383 average for the month of August. Three batters later, with two on, James Loney drove his eighth homerun of the season to give the Dodgers a 6-1 lead.

The Dodgers need a win in today’s rubber match to hold a four-game lead over the Rockies. Vicente Padilla will be activated today to make his Dodger debut (he will be replacing Kuroda in the roation for now). He hasn’t started a big league game since the first week of August. He will face Jorge De La Rosa, who is 12-8 with a 4.76 ERA.
