Dodgers Fall Short of Sweep

by @ 9:38 am. Filed under 2009 Dodgers

Despite a run in the ninth to send the game to extras, the Dodgers took a 2-4 loss after 10 innings to spare the Giants from getting swept at home.

Jeff Weaver put up three scoreless innings in place of Chad Billingsley. He tossed 61 pitches, and managed to escape a bases-loaded, no outs threat in the second. He was lifted after the third for James McDonald, who gave up two runs in the fifth. Kuo, Belisario, Troncoso, and Sherrill all combined for 4 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing the game to go to extras. It was Guillermo Mota who took the loss after giving up a two-run walk-off shot to Juan Uribe in the 10th.

Cy Younger Tim Lincecum held the Dodgers scoreless until the sixth with an RBI by Rafael Furcal. It would be Furcal in the ninth who would score the tying run. He got on base by hustling to first to get an infield single, though replays should that Uribe’s throw actually reached the bag before Furcal did. Andre Ethier cashed in Furcal later that inning with two outs to send the game to the 10th, but the Dodgers couldn’t put a runner on and took the loss.

The Dodgers finally have a day off after three weeks before heading to Arizona to take on a weekend series with the Diamondbacks. Clayton Kershaw will take the mound on Friday and will face Dan Haren. Former Cy Younger Haren has been struggling of late, surrendering 16 runs in his last 23 innings of work.
