Dodgers Fall to Cards Despite Wolf’s Solid Start

by @ 7:40 am. Filed under 2009 Dodgers

The Dodgers fell to the Cardinals in Monday’s opener, 1-6, despite a two-run performance by Randy Wolf.

Wolf allowed a run in each the first and second innings, but shut out the Cards after that until he was lifted after the sixth inning.  He ended up taking the loss as he left with a one-run deficit. James McDonald came in and gave up a leadoff homerun and was also tagged for two more runs after Casey Blake’s throwing error. Leach and Mota were also tagged for a run apiece that inning. Hong-Chih Kuo was maybe the only good story of the bullpen, having a 1-2-3 inning in his first outing since April 29 after coming off the DL.

The Dodgers had 11 hits, at least one per inning, and at least one per batter. They went 1 for 9 with RISP, though, and grounded into four double plays. Rafael Furcal knocked in Matt Kemp in the third for the Dodgers’ lone run.

Chad Billingsley looks to get the Dodgers back to their winning ways, and will face Adam Wainwright on Tuesday night. Billingsley is now in double-digit wins and Wainwright is 11-6with a 2.95 ERA, with that ERA slimmed down because of his 1.57 ERA in July alone.
