Dodgers Fall to Dbacks, 3-9

by @ 8:27 am. Filed under 2008 Dodgers

Maybe I jinxed it when reporting that the Dodgers had a league-leading 1.70 ERA yesterday. They ended up giving up nine runs yesterday, four coming off of homeruns.

Esteban Loaiza took the loss, giving up four runs in the first inning before being pulled after four innings. At that point, Loaiza had gotten under control, retiring the previous 10 batters, yet Torre felt the need to offensively take action and put in Delwyn Young to pinch hit. The Dodgers came back to narrow Arizona’s lead to 4-3 in the sixth, yet a homerun off Chan Ho Park in the sixth and four more runs and three more homers off Scott Proctor in the seventh widened the gap for good. Joe Beimel and Ramon Troncoso also relieved and gave up no runs.

The offensive struggles and runners LOB are continuing to haunt us. The Dodgers scored three runs but only one earned, and went only 1 for 7 with RISP. Ethier and Kent both went 2 for 4 with Kent having two RBI. Matt Kemp didn’t start but had a pinch hit single in the seventh. Andruw Jones extended his hitless slump to 0 for his last 12, going 0 for 4 last night, leaving runners on base in each at-bat. Despite his now .115 batting average, Jones isn’t worrying about his slump just yet.

After last night’s game, the Dodgers fall from being tied for first in the NL West to third, at 4-3.
