Following the Dodgers and Exploring The Team’s Past
[powered by WordPress.]
It was another good week. The Angels came to Chavez Ravine and the Dodgers showed them who rules Los Angeles. The Dodgers have now won four in a row and they find themselves in the middle of the NL West and only one game back of first place.
On Friday, the game was pretty much over by the sixth inning. The Dodgers scored runs in every inning except the first, and they blew the game apart with nine in the sixth inning. Oddly, only one homerun was hit (Andre Ethier). Four Dodgers had three RBis, and Ethier led the way. He went five for five with three RBis and four runs. Aaron Sele picked up the easy win and he improved to 2-0. Final score of the game was 16-3.
Yesterday, we had a nice come from behind win. The Angels jumped out to a 4-1 lead before Willy Aybar tied it up with a three run homerun in the sixth. Then in the seventh, J.D. Drew hit a pinch hit solo homerun to give the Dodgers the lead. We’d add three more in the eighth to make it 8-4, but the two homeruns were the difference makers. Bret Tomko didn’t get a decision and Joe Beimel picked up the win.
Today, it was all pitching. Derek Lowe and Jon Broxton combined for a three hit shutout. Lowe struck out seven batters in his seven innings and he improved to 2-3. On the hitting side, Nomar Garciaparra drove in three runs and Kenny Lofton had three hits and two runs in the 7-0 win.
The Rockies come to town, so with a series win, we’d pass yet another team in the standings. I had given up the Dodgers for dead a few weeks ago, so it’s nice to see this run in May.
