The Dodgers acquired third baseman Casey Blake from the Indians today, and optioned Blake DeWitt to Las Vegas to make room on the roster.

The Dodgers sent pitcher Jon Meloan and Class A catcher prospect Carlos Santana to Cleveland for the trade. Blake will now be the everyday third baseman until the rest of the season before he is a free agent. Blake led the Indians in batting average at .298 and had 58 RBI at time of the trade.

The trade deadline is just over a week away, and the Dodgers now have a surplus of outfielders and third basemen. Andy LaRoche would likely be the next trade bait to deal for the Dodgers.
