The Dodgers held on to beat the Reds in the rubber game of their series and in the process, picked up their 30th win of the season. The Dodgers jumped out to a 5-1 lead but the Reds whittled it down to just a single run deficit before Jay Howell came in and slammed the door. He picked up his fifth save while Tim Leary improved to 5-4. Leary gave up four runs (three earned) on ten hits and a walk with five strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings.
Kirk Gibson doubled, singled, drove in a run and scored. Jeff Hamilton tripled, singled drove in one and scored.
