Following the Dodgers and Exploring The Team’s Past

If there’s good news, it’s that the Dodgers have a 2 1/2 game lead for the Wild Card. And that should be three games assuming the Braves hold on and beat the Phillies. It’s going to be tight but you can pick your poison. It’s either the Cardinals or the Mets in the first round and neither will be an easy series.
Tuesday’s game was pretty ugly. The Cubs made six errors yet still managed to win. Derek Lowe was bounced after five innings and Rafael Furcal went yard in the 9-8 extra inning loss.
Brad Penny was on fire yesterday. He threw seven shutout innings and improved to 16-8 on the season. He should get some votes but that 4.04 ERA will probably preclude him from being taken too seriously for the Cy Young. Furcal homered again and he scored three times in the 6-0 win.
This afternoon’s game was as tough as Tuesday’s loss. J.D Drew hit a three run shot in the sixth to give the Dodgers a three run lead but four runs in the bottom of the seventh for the Cubs won the game. Bret Tomko took the loss in relief and Marlon Anderson hit a two run shot.
It all comes down to a huge four game series with the Padres this weekend. This is what it’s all about.
