The Dodgers had many opportunities to make a comeback in Wedneday’s game against the Mets, but they left 22 men on base in the 5-4 loss.
Hiroki Kuroda took the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits before being lifted with one out in the fifth. The Mets tied it at 1-1 in the second with an RBI-single and they took a 4-1 lead in the third after Kuroda allowed five straight batters to reach base. The bullpen did have 3 2/3 shutout innings, giving up just one hit.
Mark Loretta gave the Dodgers a quick 1-0 lead in the first with a two-out RBI-single. Rafael Furcal knocked in a run in the fourth and the Dodgers scored another in the eighth. Manny Ramirez led off the ninth with a solo homerun, and Ethier came up with one out and a runner on but grounded into a double play to end the game and his 0 for 5 night.
Randy Wolf will make the start in Thursday’s rubber match and will face Livan Hernandez, who is 5-4 but all four losses have come in his most five recent starts.
