The Dodgers four game winning streak came to an end despite a nice start by Fernando Valenzuela. He gave up just two runs on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts in nine innings. Jay Howell ran into trouble in the tenth and he took the loss. He gave up lead off single thenhe slipped on a bunt attempt and threw late to first base. A single later in the inning drove home the winning run and that dropped Howell’s record to 2-1.
Kirk Gibson doubled twice to bring his season total up to twelve. Steve Sax went two for four with a walk, a double and a run.
