Mets 5, Dodgers 4 (27-20)
The Dodgers lost a tough one in a game that started out as a pitcher’s duel but end up having it’s share of runs. Don Sutton gave up two runs in the fifth and that looked like it might be enough as Dwight Gooden shut down the Dodgers. Then in the ninth, Kirk Gibson belted a clutch solo homer to tie the game and send it into extra frames. The Dodgers then looked like they’d win it when they scored two runs in the tenth but the Mets answered with two of their own off of Jay Howell. Then in the bottom of the eleventh, Alejandro Pena gave up a walk off solo homer to Scott Elster for the Dodgers second straight loss.
Kirk Gibson finished the game two for five and he was the only Dodger with two hits. Steve Sax singled and he drove in one of the Dodgers’ runs.
