Following the Dodgers and Exploring The Team’s Past

The Dodgers continue their longest winning streak of the season by beating the Marlins last night, 7-6.
The winning run was from an RBI single by Jeff Kent in the ninth with two outs to score Andre Ethier. Ethier had walked with one out in the ninth, and was 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored on the night. Kent ended up 2 for 5 with 3 RBI. Matt Kemp was also 2 for 5 with 2 RBI. The offense built a 6-1 lead by the end of third, led by back-to-back 2-RBI singles by Kemp and Kent in the second, but were pretty much shut down until Kent’s go-ahead hit in the ninth.
Starter Derek Lowe had a five run lead going into the second. He let that slip away by giving up six runs, though three were unearned due to a James Loney error in the fifth. Lowe left after five with a 6-6 tie for the no decision. Scott Proctor, Joe Beimel, and Saito all came out of the pen to go four scoreless innings, giving up just one hit. Beimel earned the win and Saito the save, just his third of the season after blowing two of his last four save opportunities.
The win moves the Dodgers back to the .500 mark, 5 1/2 games behind the Dbacks in first.
