Dodgers Open Series with Cubs Tonight

by @ 1:28 pm. Filed under 2008 Dodgers

The Dodgers will host the Cubs in a four-game series beginning tonight after dropping two of three to the Rockies at home. The Cubs sport the best record in both leagues and had won nine straight games, including a three-game sweep of the Dodgers, before losing by one run to the Padres on Wednesday.

Chad Billingsley will get the start, and is 2-1 with a 1.00 ERA in his last four starts. He has a 1.80 ERA since April 30, which is good enough for second best in the NL. The Cubs will send Ryan Dempster to the mound, who has a 7-2 record with a 2.75 ERA, but remains winless on the road. Dempster and Bilingsley vied two weeks ago at Wrigley and Dempster allowed just one run through seven to take the win.

Matt Kemp was handed a suspension of four games along with a fine for his brawl with Yorvit Torreabla on Tuesday night. Torreabla was also fined and given a three-game suspension. The suspension should start tonight, but Kemp will likely appeal in hopes of reducing the number of games.
