The Dodgers added a win to their now perfect 7-0 record at Dodger Stadium with an 8-5 win over the Padres on Thursday.
James McDonald made the start, but was lifted in the second after giving up three runs. Jeff Weaver was a nice fill-in for four innings, shutting out the Padres while notching four K’s. Will Ohman gave up two go-ahead runs in the seventh and was replaced with Ronald Belisario, who got the win. Cory Wade held the eighth before Broxton notched three strikeouts in his ninth inning save.
The Dodgers scored one in the first and back-to-back homeruns by Orlando Hudson and Manny Ramirez gave them a 4-1 lead in the third. They tied it up again in the seventh on Mark Loretta’s pinch-hit RBI-single, got the go-ahead run on a Padre misplay and added two insurance runs in the eighth.
Clayton Kershaw takes the mound tonight and will face Padres ace Jake Peavy. Kershaw remains winless this season while Peavy is 2-3 with a 5.74 ERA.
