Dodgers Salvage Split After Historic Game Last Night

by @ 9:58 am. Filed under 2006 Season

Wow.  Let me say it again.  Wow.

For those of you who listened or watched yesterday’s game between the Dodgers and Padres, you witnessed history.  Not only did the Dodgers hit back to back to back to back homeruns in the ninth inning to tie the game after being down 9-5, but Nomar Garciparra then hits a two run walk off homerun to win the game in the bottom of the tenth. Truly amazing, and when you add on the fact that this game had major playoff implications late in the year, it definitely makes for a fantastic story.

In all, the Dodgers hit seven homeruns yesterday.  Marlon Anderson was five for five with two of those homeruns and he scored three times.  Aaron Sele ended up picking up the win even after gave up the go ahead run to the Padres in the tenth inning.

This capped off a series that had been somewhat disappointing.  The Dodgers won on Friday but then dropped the next two, including a blow out on Saturday.  Greg Maddux threw a gem for that win on Friday and man is it good that we’ll have him for the playoffs.

So the Dodgers lead the Padres by a half game.  And just in time, next up is three against the Pirates.  Two of three is pretty much a neccesity here, although a sweep would be even better.
