Following the Dodgers and Exploring The Team’s Past

One week. Six games. That’s all the Dodgers have left in the 2006 season and they find themselves a game back in the loss column to the Phillies for the Wild Card spot and two games back in the loss column to the Padres. You figure if the Dodgers want to have a chance to have the post season, they can go no worse then 4-2 and that’s with some help so they’ve definitely backed themselves into a wall.
Derek Lowe was phenomonal on Friday. He threw seven shutout innings and the offense did just enough to pick up the win. J.D. Drew hit a solo homerun and Marlon Anderson doubled home Russ Martin for the only two runs of the game.
Yesterday was the loss. Brad Penny of all people got knocked around and Elmer Dessens got roughed up out of the pen. J.D. Drew went three for three with an RBI and Nomar Garciaparra had a double and two RBIs in the 9-3 loss.
Today’s game was huge. With the score tied at 1-1, Garciparra hit a game winning walk off grand slam to give the Dodgers a 5-1 win. Hong-Chih Kup was awesome and he gave up one unearned run on four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in seven innings. Takashi Saito picked up the win in relief and Jon Broxton struck out the side in the eighth inning.
The Phillies swept the Marlins and the Padres swept the Pirates so fortunately the Dodgers were able to keep up. Both teams will get rid of that half game tomorrow because they both play and the Dodgers have the day off. Hopefully this will be a heck of a week to be a Dodgers’ fan.
