Dodgers Shut Out by Rockies

by @ 10:54 am. Filed under 2008 Dodgers

The Dodgers los 0-3 to the Rockies in the second game of the set to end the Rockies eight-game losing streak. Both benches cleared in the eighth to generate some kind of excitement before the Dodgers took the loss.

The Dodgers were held to six hits by Rockies starter Jeff Francis and closer Brian Fuentes. Juan Pierre and Delwyn Young each went 2 for 4, and Jeff Kent and James Loney each added one, and that was all the offense could produce on the night. They rallied to send the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Blake DeWitt popped out to end the game. Also, with two out in the eight, Matt Kemp struck out but the ball got away from catch Yorvit Torrealba. Kemp pushed the rolling ball with his bat and was forcefully tagged by Torrealba before the two started wrestling. The benches cleared before the umpires broke things up. No suspensions as of yet, but both Kemp and Torrealba will likely see something.

Brad Penny pitched a strong six innings but still took the loss, his first against the Rockies since 2005, as he saw no run support.  He gave up just two runs on six hits with 5 K’s but remains winless in over a month. Beimel, Proctor, and Wade all relieved, with Wade giving up a solo shot to give the Rockies 3 runs.

After losing nine of the last tweleve, the Dodgers will send Clayton Kershaw to the mound for his third start. Kershaw has had two outings but has yet to earn a decision. He will face Aaron Cook, who stands at 7-3. On May 4, Cook got the win against the Dodgers, giving up two runs through 7 2/3.
