Dodgers Split Final Two with Padres

by @ 8:40 am. Filed under 2009 Dodgers

Randy Wolf pitched for the win on Saturday, holding the Padres to one run through six innings while striking out eight. He left with a one run lead after the top of the seventh, but the bullpen let it go to give Wolf his 12th no decision. Belisario suffered the loss after giving up three go-ahead runs in the seventh. Troncoso also gave up three runs in the eighth, though all were unearned due to three errors.

Josh Geer held the Dodgers to one run through the first six frames, a solo homerun from Manny Ramirez in the first. Ethier and Kemp also pitched in with RBI’s.

The Dodgers won Sunday’s rubber match in 13 innings. Chad Billingsley went eight strong innings before giving up two runs in the ninth. Jonathan Broxton also struggled that inning, giving up three runs to allow the Padres to tie it up. Jeff Weaver came out on top, tossing three hitless shutout innings for the win.

The Dodgers had a four-run lead by the third, courtesy of a solo homerun by Andre Ethier in the second and a two-run shot by Casey Blake in the third. Billingsley even helped himself out with a solo shot in the fifth. The Padre bullpen then held them scoreless after the sixth until the 13th inning when James Loney drove a solo homerun that would give the Dodgers the win.

The Dodgers have Monday off before heading to New York to take on the Mets in a three-game series. Clayton Kershaw will face Mike Pelfrey in Tuesday’s game.
