Following the Dodgers and Exploring The Team’s Past

The Dodgers were shut out on Tuesday but came back to win the series with a slim 1-0 win on Wednesday.
Chad Billingsley pitched like the game’s winner, pitching a quality start of three runs on four hits through 7 1/3 while striking out 11. The offense was quiet, though, and Billingsley suffered the loss, failing again to reach double-digits in wins.
Jason Marquis completely shut down the Dodgers at the plate, tossing a two-hit, complete game win.
The offense didn’t fare much better on Wednesday, but they managed to squeeze out one run while the pitching was lights-out for the win. Brad Ausmus singled in the eighth and pinch-runner Russell Martin scored from second on Rafael Furcal’s RBI-single.
Clayton Kershaw held the Rockies to just one run through five while striking out five (though he also walked five). Belisario tossed two shutout innings before Troncoso tossed the eighth to pick up the win. Jonathan Broxton pitched a perfect ninth for his 19th save, while striking out two.
The Dodgers are the first team to reach 50 wins, and they also are a big-league best at home with a 28-13 record. The Dodgers won’t be back in LA until July 16th, after the All-Star break. After Thursday’s day off, the club heads to San Diego for a weekend series with the Padres. Hiroki Kuroda will make the start and face Chad Gaudin. The big story of the night, though, will be the return of Manny Ramirez to the lineup after missing 50 games for his suspension.
