The first place Dbacks and their starter Edgar Gonzalez beat the Dodgers last night, 6-4.
The Dodgers did manage to score three runs off seven his in Gonzalez’s seven innings of work. The Dodgers tied it up 1-1 in the first off Jeff Kent’s RBI double, who was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI for the night. He drove in Nomar for the first run, who went 2 for 4. The Dbacks again took a 3-1 lead in the second. The Dodgers rallied in the fourth to score two more runs to tie the game, an RBI single by James Loney and sacfly by Andre Ethier. They could’ve taken the lead but instead left two men on as Billingsley grounded out. Another chance failed in the sixth with bases loaded and one out, but Matt Kemp struck out and then pinch hitter Matt Sweeney flied out to end the inning. They finish the night going 2 for 8 with RISP, leaving seven men on base, though the 3-4-5 hitters did go a combined 6 for 11 with 3 runs scored.
Starter Billingsley remains winless after this game, giving up five runs and six hits through six innings. He did have a career-high 12 strikeouts, but the damage was already done to hand him the loss.
Tidbit of the night: Jeff Kent and Joe Torre were both ejected in the ninth after arguing about a play from the top of the eighth, where a Dbacks runner was called safe after the ump said Kent was taken off the bag on the throw. The runner eventually scored.
