Following the Dodgers and Exploring The Team’s Past
[powered by WordPress.]
It’s nice to finally get back on track, even if it is for just one weekend. The Dodgers are in fourth place, but they’re slowly creeping their way back to .500. And this isn’t the Brewers of a couple of years ago. The Dodgers just took care of business against a solid team.
Friday’s game looked like it might be over early. The Dodgers had a 3-0 lead by the bottom of the fourth inning but then their bats just went away. That 3-0 lead stood going into the top of the seventh before the Brewers finally scored a run. Then in the top of the eighth, the Brewers tied the game up with two more. The score stayed 3-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth. Rafael Furcal got on with a bunt single and he was moved over to second base on Jose Cruz, Jr.’s bunt. Then Nomar Garciaparra came up huge with a walk off RBI single to end the game.
Yesterday’s game was just as dramatic. This time it was the Brewers who jumped out to 3-1 lead by the the third inning. In the bottom of the fifth, Nomar got the job done again. He cut the lead to 3-2 with an RBI double and he then scored the tying run on J.D. Drew’s ground out. Jose Cruz, Jr. drove home Jeff Kent with a sac fly in the bottom of the eighth and things were looking up for the Dodgers, but the Brewers tied the game up in the top of the ninth off of Danys Baez. The Dodgers weren’t done though. In the bottom of the ninth, Furcal struck out and then Kenny Lofton doubled. Then Nomar came up big again with a single and he had his second straight walk off RBI single of the series.
Today’s game was a blow out. The Dodgers jumped all over Dave Bush and they finished the game with ten runs. Furcal had a big game. He went two for four with a homerun, two RBIs and two runs. Jeff Kent and Olmedo Saenz both drove in two runs and Aaron Sele, throwing in place of Odalis Perez (bereavement leave) threw a nice game.
Next up is a three game series against the Astros. The Dodgers may be two games below .500, but they’re still only four games back of first place. It’d be nice if they could build on this winning streak and maybe finish the three game series closer to .500 then when they started.
