Following the Dodgers and Exploring The Team’s Past

The Dodgers belted three homers in an 8-2 victory over the Rockies to begin their homestand.
The Rockies got on top first with a run in the first inning, but the Dodgers scored two in the bottom of the first and three in the next two innings to hold the lead. In the first, Matt Kemp doubled and scored off Andre Ethier’s groundout. Jeff Kent then followed with a solo shot, giving him 271 for his career to move him to 64th all-time. The Dodgers took advantage of a Rockies’ error in the second to score two more runs with the help of a suicide squeeze by Derek Lowe and an RBI-single by Juan Pierre. Ethier made it 5-1 in the third with a leadoff solo shot. James Loney added an RBI-single in the sixth and Kemp added a solo shot in the seventh to allow the Dodgers to run away with an 8-1 lead.
Derek Lowe gave up a two-out RBI-single in the first, but shut down the Rockies after that to earn his third win, his first since April 23. He ended up throwing eight innings, giving up just five hits with three K’s. Scott Proctor finished off the ninth, though he did give up an RBI-double to give the Rockies two total runs.
The Rockies continue their losing streak at eight while losing their 13th consecutive road game. The Dodgers can move back to the .500 mark with a win on Tuesday. They send Brad Penny to the mound to go for his sixth win, which would even his record at .500 as well, but is still winless in his last six starts. He will face lefty Jeff Francis, who is just 1-5 on the season and sports an ERA over 6.00.
