Dodgers Take Back First Place After Big Game By Steve Sax

May 26, 1988 at Veterans Stadium
Dodgers 10, Philies 8  (25-17)

The pitching wasn’t there but the Dodgers definitely got it done at the plate to wrap up a three game sweep over the Phillies.  Steve Sax led the way with a big day at the plate.  He doubled, homered twice, drove in four runs and scored three times.  John shelby, Mickey Hatcher and Jeff Hamilton all had a pair of hits, an RBI and two runs a piece.

Don Sutton gave up three runs in six innings but he didn’t get the decision.  Jay Howell closed out the game with two scoreless innings and he improved to 2-0.

The significance about this win was the Dodgers took sole possession of first place.  From here on out, they’d be in first place through the end of the season.
