The Dodgers got to Padres closer Trevor Hoffman in the ninth to score their third and winning run of the game.
The Dodgers scored first in second inning off Andre Ethier’s solo homerun before the Padres answered back to take a 2-1 lead. Ethier scored again in the seventh off Russell Martin’s RBI double to tie it up. The ninth inning winning RBI came off the bat of Chin-lung Hu to score Martin from second. Closer Hoffman has already fallen to 0-2 on the season.
Derek Lowe went six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits with six strikeouts. After 2/3 an inning from Proctor and Joe Beimel, Jonathan Broxton came in and took the W for the night. Saito then closed out the ninth to earn his first save of the season.
The Dodgers move to 4-2, which is good enough for a first place tie in the NL West.
