Dodgers Three Run Ninth Pushes Team to Second Straight Win

by @ 4:11 am. Filed under 1988 Dodgers, 1988 Dodgers Diary - April

April 7, 1988 at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium
Dodgers 5, Braves 2  (2-1)

The Dodgers made it two straight wins despite making three errors, they just needed three runs in the top of the ninth to win it.  Pedro Guerrero came up with the big hit and his two run single broke a 2-2 tie and turned out to be the difference in the game.  Kirk Gibson picked up his first hit as a Dodger with a double in the eighth inning.  Gibby also drew two walks, stole a base, scored twice and was hit by a pitch in the win.  Mike Marshall was three for four with two RBIs.

Don Sutton had a solid start and while he gave up just two runs, it was the pen that shined.  Alejandro Pena threw two shutout innings to pick up the win and Jesse Orosco pitched a shutout ninth to pick up his first save of the season.
