April 4, 1988 at Dodger Stadium
Giants 5, Dodgers 1  (0-1)

The Dodgers opened up their season with a loss as home to the Giants.  Fernando Valenzuela took the loss and while he managed to go six innings, he gave up a pile of runs in the third and the fourth.  He eventually gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits and four walks with four strikeouts in the loss.

Kirk Gibson had a tough Dodgers debut and he went zero for four with two strikeouts.  Steve Sax had two of the Dodgers three hits and he drove in the lone run with a solo homer in the first inning.
