by @ 5:27 pm. Filed under 1988 Dodger Diary - June, 1988 Dodgers

June 14, 1988 at Fulton County Stadium
Dodgers 5, Braves 4  (33-25)

The Dodgers got a day off and it did them some good as they took care of the Braves in their series opener.  John Shelby belted a two run homer while Mike Marshall went three for five with a run and an RBI.

Fernando Valenzuela improved to 5-5 with a nice start.  He gave up two runs on four hits and three walks with one strikeout in seven innings.  Jay Howell threw two shutout innings to close out the game and he picked up his seventh save of the season.
