The Dodgers drove a season-high four homeruns, two by Andre Ethier, in a 6-4 win over the Padres.
Chad Billingsley picked up his eighth win, going 5 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits. He allowed the Padres to rally for two in the first, but the Dodger offense answered back and Billingsley gave up just one run after that. Leach, Belisario, and Troncoso also held the Padres out of the bullpen and Jonathan Broxton picked up his fourteenth save, though gave up a run in the ninth.
After the Padres scored two in the first, Ethier answered back in the bottom half with his first homerun of the night. The Dodgers tied it with a run in the second and Ethier drove his second homerun in the third for the go-ahead run, while also raising his June BA to .419. Matt Kemp and Orlando Hudson each hit solo homeruns in the fifth, and Furcal knocked in an insurance run in the eighth.
Clayton Kershaw will look to give the Dodgers a two-game sweep with a win. He will face Kevin Correia, who is 2-4 with a 5.13 ERA. Kershaw looks to even his record at .500; he is 2-0 witha 2.70 ERA in five career starts against the Padres.
In the Dodgers’ first pick (36th overall), they selected LHP/CF Aaron Miller of Baylor. They went on to pick outfielder Blake Smith of Cal, RHP Garrett Gould out of high school, and RHP Brett Wallach of Orange Coast College.
