Kirk Gibson Homers Dodgers to Win Over Cubs

May 10, 1988 at Wrigley Field
Dodgers 6, Cubs 5  (19-9)

The Dodger almost let this game slip away from them as they blew a 5-1 lead but they held on to win it in the fourteenth inning on a solo homer by Kirk Gibson.  It was his sixth homer of the season and he finished three for seven with three runs while Steve Sax went two for seven with a solo homer.

Tim Belcher was touched up for four runs in 5 2/3 innings and it was Jesse Orosco who gave up the ninth inning run that sent the game into extra frames.  Still, Brian Holton threw three shutout innings to pick up the win while Orel Hershiser came in to pitch a perfect fourteenth to pick up his first save of the season.
