Kuroda Pitches Complete-Game Shutout

by @ 5:39 am. Filed under 2008 Dodgers

Hiroki Kuroda led the Dodgers past the Cubs with a four-hitter through nine on Friday, as the offense scored three runs to take the win.

The Dodgers scored their first in the first inning when Delwyn Young walked and scored off Jeff Kent’s RBI-double, Kent’s 374th of his career to move to 21st all-time, before he was ejected in the fifth for arguing strikes. Another came in the fourth when Danny Ardoin grounded out with the bases loaded to score James Loney. Loney scored another run in the sixth on a suicide-squeeze play off the bat of Ardoin.

Kuroda’s complete game shutout is the first for the Dodgers in almost three years, back in August 2005 when Derek Lowe pitched for one at Wrigley. Kuroda not only shut the Cubs out for runs, he only gave up four hits with no walks, and had 11 K’s on the night.

The Dodgers have now snapped their losing skid but still remain 3 games under .500. They send Derek Lowe to the mound to face Carlos Zambrano for the FOX Game of the Week. Both pitchers faced eachother on May 28 at Wrigley, with both earning the no-decision. Zambrano is 8-1 and also sports a .366 BA.
