After the Reds tied it 2-2 in the sixth, the Dodgers came back to load the bases in the bottom half for Manny to drill a go-ahead grand slam.
Chad Billingsley finally hit double digits in his win total, holding the Reds to two runs on seven hits while striking out seven. He was lifted after six for Mota, who tossed two perfect innings before Broxton closed out the ninth.
The Reds scored a run in the first but Andre Ethier answered back in the bottom half with a solo homerun. James Loney put the Dodgers ahead in the fourth with an RBI-triple, going 1 for 3 to improve his average against the Reds to .453 lifetime. The Reds tied it in the top of the sixth, and the Dodgers had a chance when they loaded the bases on two walks and a single. The pitcher’s spot was due up, and Torre decided to put in Manny as a pinch-hitter, on his bobble head night, for a chance to put the Dodgers ahead. Manny belted his 21st career grand slam, now just two behind Lou Gehrig on the all-time list.
The Dodgers completed the sweep of the Reds and have Thursday off before opening a weekend series with the Marlins on Friday. Clayton Kershaw will take the mound and looks to continue his hot streak, 5-0 in his last seven starts, all of which the Dodgers went on to win. He will face Josh Johnson, who is 8-2 with a 2.74 ERA.
