Mets 3, Dodgers 2 (27-19)
Tim Leary was roughed up and he fell to 4-4 as the Dodgers dropped their series opener to the Mets. Leary gave up three runs on six hits and five walks with six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Tim Crews threw two shutout innings to close out the game but the Dodgers weren’t able to mount a come back against Mets starter Ron Darling.
John Shelby was the hitting star and he drove in both Dodgers run. He went two for four with a homerun and two RBIs.
