Dodgers 2, Phillies 1 (23-17)
The Dodgers won a twelve inning pitchers duel behind some top notch pitching by Orel Hershiser and the Dodgers pen. Hershiser didn’t get a decision, but he gave up just one run on five hits and five walks with three strikeouts in eight innings. Alejandro Pena improved to 2-1 with a shutout eleventh and Jesse Orosco threw a perfect twelth to pick up his fourth save of the season.
Dave Anderson belted a solo homerun in the eighth inning to tie the game at one run a piece. Then Mike Davis singled home Rick Dempsey in the bottom of the twelth to win it for the Dodgers. Kirk Gibson reached base a team high four times with a single and three walks. All three passes that Gibson picked up were intentional.
