Orel Hershiser Throws Three Hit Shutout In Dodgers First Win Of Season

by @ 7:57 am. Filed under 1988 Dodgers, 1988 Dodgers Diary - April

April 5, 1988 at Dodger Stadium
Dodgers 5, Giants 0  (1-1)

The Dodgers put their first win on the board as Orel Hershiser was awesome in his season debut.  He gave up just three hits and two walks with six strikeouts in the complete game shutout and it was a fitting start to what would be a phenomonal season for the right hander.

Alfredo Griffin doubled, drove in two runs and scored for the Dodgers.  Mike Scioscia was the hitting star and he went two for three with an RBI and two runs.  Kirk Gibson continued his struggles to start the season and while he reached base for the first time as a Dodger with a walk, he struck out two more times.
