Following the Dodgers and Exploring The Team’s Past

The Dodgers snapped their four game losing skid to get back to .500 with a win over the Mets, 9-5.
The Dodger offense went 6 for 9 with RISP, and started off in the first by rallying to take a 3-0 lead. Juan Pierre had a leadoff walk and stole second before James Loney and Russell Martin hit consecutive RBI-doubles followed by an RBI-single by Andre Ethier. The Mets came back to take a 4-3 lead but Martin tied it in the fourth with a solo shot. Martin ended up 4 for 4 with 3 RBI on the night, just a triple short of the cycle. The Mets took the lead again by adding one in the seventh, but a 5-run Dodger eighth lead them to the victory. Pierre started things off with a single and scored off Matt Kemp’s RBI double. Jeff Kent, Loney, and Martin each followed suit with RBI singles. Blake DeWitt also added an RBI single to cap off the inning.
The Dodgers have won both games that Clayton Kershaw has started, but he has two no-decisions in both those starts. Kershaw had a 3-0 lead when he took the mound in the first, but allowed the Mets to close the gap to 3-2 when Luis Castillo hit a two-run shot. Kershaw was pulled in the fourth after loading the bases with two outs and left with being tagged for four runs total. Chan Ho Park came out of the pen and got David Wright to ground out to end the threat. Park then didn’t allow a Mets hit until the seventh which allowed David Wright to score. Park finished for the win with 3 1/3 innings of work. Jonathan Broxton threw a hitless eighth before Saito closed out the ninth to seal the win.
The Dodgers look to go above .500 today and send Chad Billingsley to the mound to go for his fifth win. He will face Mike Pelfrey, who has lost his last six decisions and holds a 5.33 ERA.
