Randy Wolf sailed through the first give innings, giving up just a run in the second and retired eight batters at one point. He ran into trouble in the sixth after taking the mound and allowing three consecutive hits, including a two run go-ahead double. He was pulled and Mota finished off the inning, allowing another run to scrore that was tagged to Randy Wolf. Will Ohman and Ronald Belisario each tossed a shutout inning, but it was Wolf who was handed the loss–failing to lose his first start of the regular season for six straight years.
The Dodgers had trouble against Chris Young, unable to score until putting up two in the fourth, including run by Manny Ramirez after he doubled. Young left after six and the Padres’ bullpen didn’t allow a hit in the final three innings.
The Dodgers face the Padres again tonight, with Chad Billingsley taking on Walter Silva. Silva is making his MLB debut, the 32-year old has spent most of his career with the Mexican Winter League.
