Two Big Rally Innings Propel Dodgers to Win

by @ 9:19 am. Filed under 2009 Dodgers

The Dodgers scored all but one of their 16 runs in just two innings as they beat the Rockies on Monday in the first of a three game series at Coors.

Eric Stults shut out the Rockies for the first three frames, and he took the mound in the fourth with a 7-0 cushion. Stults then struggled for command, being tagged for four runs while walking seven before he left with one out in the fifth. He picked up the no-decision, and Jeff Weaver gave up two runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief. Will Ohman picked up his first win of the season, though he walked two and only recorded one out.

Jorge De La Rosa blanked the Dodgers for the first three innings, but the Dodgers rallied to chase him out in the fourth.  The Dodgers put up three runs before Juan Pierre cleared the bases with a three-run triple to send De La Rosa to the clubhouse. The Dodgers then put up an eight-run eighth before adding one more in the ninth. All Dodger hitters had at least one hit and score at least one run, with Russell Martin, Matt Kemp, James Loney, and Juan Castro all notching three hits.

The Dodgers have now won nine of twelve as they head into another game with the Rockies. Eric Milton will make his second start of the season and will face Aaron Cook, who is 3-1 and coming off his second career shutout.
